Hello Everybody, I have just discovered this site after hours of trawling through other websites. I am hoping to purchase an old speedboat that can seat at least four people and that is mechanically sound (I don't want much do I!) as I have reasonably good woodworking and GPR skills and a workshop. I would be grateful for any leads.
Cheers

Hi and welcome to the site. The best idea is to place a rough idea of what you have to spend on the project and I am sure someone will be able to help. Also if you want an inboard or outboard boat - BN

That would open up the market for several project boats, but may exclude 4 seater Albatrosses and the better known makes. Try looking for a type like this. It is now a classic and so is the engine, but not for the faint hearted. The Broomes are brilliant, excellent project and a four seater with engine.

Thanks for the link and the advice. How much are we talking about for something like an Albatross?

The Albatross is hard to find in 4 seater, but the following person has a 2 seater that sounds like a brilliant project for sale. simon@wangos.co.uk Make contact, it might be worth it.

The Simmonds is a great boat, just look at Thumpers site and you will see what he is talking about. Even the engines are upper class Daimler units.

Well, not all of them, to be truthful. In fact, I believe only two were built (by Simmonds themselves anyway) with the Daimler unit, and one of those certainly survives, but the rest usually had the Ford Consul engine. Even so, the standard engine offered 35 mph, and a tuned one could top 50, while a Simmonds with the Daimler V8 is supposed to be capable of more than 60.

Donald Simmonds did test a boat fitted with the larger Ford Zephyr engine, but it sank first time out when he turned too sharply and an experimental splash rail he'd been testing dug into the water and dragged her down.  I'm not aware of any boats going into production with that unit as a result - or the splash rail, for that matter.

Sorry, just checked, and apparently one Zephyr engined boat was built for the same guy that ordered one of the Daimler V8-powered Simmonds. I'd be interested to know if it survives.

Hi All
Currently have a Delta with MK2 1600 Cortina engine.
Boat has been a project but due to a little man coming along (Baby) I have not had the time nor can I see the free time needed coming up to complete.
The engine has been stripped and valves re-seated etc.
I am possibly looking to sell it and open to offers.
If you are interested I can e-mail you photos showing you where I got too.

All the best,
Graham

Sorry to not have responded sooner (work, children etc). I have managed to purchase a Storobro Solo in need of some restoration. I don't know if this type falls into any category but I would be grateful for any info.
Many thanks

Hi, do you have any pictures, because I do not know the boat. Post to me or go to the 'additional options' bottom left of the reply section and place a jpg of not more than 100kb and we can all see it.

I have placed a small picture, which I think may be the boat and it looks fantastic and yes it is a boat I personally would love to see on this site.
