Albatross Alpine (Slipper Stern) Number 2003
« on: August 24, 2011, 04:10:05 PM »
This four-seater is the third production model and differs from later models in having a lower cowl on the engine cover which clears slightly smaller air cleaners on the twin Zenith carbs than those used on the cars and shown in the Alpine Marine parts list. It also has the Rootes Alpine Marine engine heat exchanger and header tank instead of Albatross's own header tank.

She apparently hasn't been in the water for the last 17 or more years and I hope to return her to close to original specification over the next year so any photos of these rare boats in original condition would be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear the bad news, but the weather is also not helping my restorations either. Thought I would have become used to it now, but sadly not.

Hi Tatra,

Sorry for the bad news, hope things get better soon for you and your loved ones.

I just wanted to let you know the Slipper Stern #2002 has been located, the "sister ship" of yours, see here :

Doubt had been expressed in the past over the originality of the hump on the engine hatch of 2003 as it differs from the standard hump.

However, stripping the paint appears to confirm that it is original.

Everything matches right down to the zinc chromate primer as found on the rest of the boat. The rivets are undisturbed, the end band is also riveted and the end without a band is rolled the same way the deck is over the dash.

Having seen that beautiful picture of one of the Harrison's Alpines on the water I had assumed that the end bands were anodised but mine aren't and Rich's isn't - they're all painted.
