Stern of Almarines and Mitchams

(1/1)

BN:
I had to strengthen up my stern on the Mitcham OB I have. The tuned up 15HP to 25HP was stuffing the stern in with the power. I was quite horrified when I started to repair it, but well done John, when you designed them, you thought about it well. Attached are some pictures to show what you will find if you repair the stern. This is not the boat I repaired, but one I scrapped for spares years ago.

Follow the pictures and then look at the 5th picture. This is where John thought about the future and possibly bigger engines and general abuse, because he placed a thumping big 12" x 5" x 1/2" piece of plate steel in the stern where the outboard clamps on.

If you have a 'squishy' stern, then get someone to restore the plywood which has well rotted, but they do not necessarily need to mess up the outside of the boat to do it. All the work can be done from the inside, brill John  :D
