RESTORATION & HISTORY > Jet Star Restoration
One owner Jetstar 520.....
Admbeattie:
Hi,
My name is Will and my father and I have bought the 'one owner Jetstar 520' off David earlier this week. We are chuffed to bits and have started the process of brining her back to life, here in Bosham on the south coast.
The plan is to conduct an early sea trial in a few weeks before the weather turns. To that end I wondered if Alan R was still on this net? Having established that the engine turns over with ease, We are keen to replace the water cooling impeller before running it in earnest. Would Alan be able to give us the part details for this impeller? Jabsco? Likewise any details on where we might source a new rubbing straight (black rubber around the hull and deck moulding) would be really useful.
Many thanks - will.

Hi and welcome to OSB.
I have seen the boat together with its history and it is a very rare Jetstar indeed. The good thing is that both Alan and Mark live not far from you, so you have to two most valuable people together with Geoff living near you.
I am so pleased that you could see through the dust, because I think David found it difficult to actually sell after owning it from new in 1973. To own a boat for 44 years must be some kind of record, let alone keep copious records as he did.
When it is restored, please try and bring it to our lake in Northamptonshire, because everytime, we have more visit and set a modern day record each time.
Hope your test runs work out well and please keep us updated . BN :D

Hi Will & welcome, Alan is an encyclopedic genius when it comes to Jetstars, so I'll tell you what I think I know! The impellor comes from Lancing Marine in Portslade (Brighton). It is a Jabsco pump & Mike Bellamy is the guy that knows Jetstars & Castoldi Jets well, but I'm not 100% sure of the impellor size & he might know. I'll try & get the details for the gunwale rubbing strip for you, but they are readily available. Mark
BN:
Walker Rubber in Norwich may well do the gunnel rubbers. They are a great help and very cost effective.

Thanks guys very helpful. I'll give them a buzz in lancing....
The boat is already coming up beautifully and we are very pleased she is so original. My father actually thinks he saw the boat in 1975 on holiday on the East Coast - and has wanted one ever since! Funny how things work out. My son thinks it's amazing so between the 3 generations I know this boat will be cherished. I look forward to meeting you in due course,
More to follow,
Will.
Actually Mark - when you replaced the windscreen could it be done from a sheet of Perspex or did it need to be pre- bent?
