WOW!! just got back from the Marnham race, what a rush, boat launching was fine very simple briefing (too simple really) and off you go! the course was Marnham bridge to keedby and back as predicted approx 70 miles, so we got kitted up in life jackets etc. fired up Andre Jones fine restoration which ran no bother at all, a real testament to his work.
so we gun this thing all 7.5 litres of her and in no time we are doing 55mph, pretty swift I thought, so Simon's just getting the feel of things and theres some fairly tight turns coming up then a straight bit " shall we floor it ,why not i think, the acceleration is blistering were now doing 73 on gps in what is normally a 6 knot limit straight through the centre of Gainsborough the locals are cheering and waving its just like Lewis Hamilton in Montreal ( I exaggerated that bit) by this time if it ain't tied on you've lost it hats etc, your cheeks are litterally flapping as theres no screen, stick your head out the car at 70 you will know what I am on. The river is absolutely deserted apart from a couple of narrow boats who generally encouraged our exploits, well I am sure thats what they were waving about, and the surface is like glass quite surreal really, except you can't hear above the wind noise in your ears ( memo wear helmet next time ) . Half way stop at keedby lock to gather your thoughts and adjust your underwear and were off again on the return trip 35miles in about 40mins wow what a rush, can't wait till next year Cheers
